We love to travel but we also love local
In 2017 we held a series of monthly Lunch & Learn Events where we provided a complimentary lunch with an educational travel presentation at different downtown West Chester restaurants. In addition to supporting local restaurants, for each event we partnered with a locally based non-profit organization. Guests paid $5 to attend the lunch and WhirlAway Travel matched all donations collected. A representative from the non-profit partner of the month was invited to give a presentation and share their mission with the group. For over 30 years we’ve loved being an active part of the West Chester community.
Non-Profit Community Partners for 2017:
Home of the Sparrow partners with women in our community who are facing homelessness to secure housing, achieve long-term stability and chart new paths for their futures. www.homeofthesparrow.org
Bringing Hope Home brings “unexpected amazingness” to local families with cancer through financial and emotional support. Through their Light of Hope Family Grant Program they directly pay household bills to ensure families are able to stay in their homes, with a secure roof over their heads, utilities on, phones working, and food on the table while they are dealing with cancer. Since their inception in 2008 they have supported over 3,300 local families with over $3.9 million dollars in assistance. www.bringinghopehome.org
Team CMMD is a non-profit charity team of runners and non-runners, led and founded by Christine Meyer, MD. “We come from all walks of life and several different states, but we have a common mission: fighting cancer. Each of us has desire to do what we can to make a difference in our local community of Chester County, PA and beyond, and in the lives of those affected by cancer.” Donations support Team CMMD’s fund raising for the American Cancer Society. www.teamcmmd.org
Friends Association helps homeless or near homeless families stabilize their lives and find or maintain permanent housing. For an impoverished family, an unexpected expense or a decrease in income can result in eviction and homelessness. Through Emergency Family Shelter, Homeless Prevention Programs and Outreach to Homeless Families they address the needs of a wide range of families, from those who have become homeless to those who only need rental assistance for a limited time. www.friendsassoc.org
