In March of 2014, I had the opportunity to participate in an Education Journey with Signature Travel Network, African Travel, South African Airways, and Wilderness Safaris on an amazing expedition through South Africa and Botswana for two weeks.  I joined 6 other travel professionals from across the United States, with our trusted leader, Ignacio Maza from the Signature Travel Network.  All of the research and training that I did leading up to this expedition never prepared me for what was to come.  In this 4 part series I will introduce you to this incredible destination and all that it has to offer.  Following is an overview of my itinerary and a highlight or two of what is to come!

After an incredibly long flight, we arrived in Cape Town and spent 4 nights at two incredible hotels.  Some of the highlights were Table Mountain, Robben Island, Chefs Tables, Chef Bruce, Cape Peninsula tour, and a city tour.  Following Cape Town we participated in a wine tour and spent one glorious night in the most magical hotel in Franschhoek.

Leg two was a 2 night visit to Sabi Sands Game Reserve, right outside of Kruger National Park to do what everyone thinks Africa is all about – SAFARI!  After bumping around in a Land Rover for 4 game drives, we relaxed for 1 night in Johannesburg in a walled and guarded hotel compound.  Intrigued about that?

Finally, leg 3 was icing on the cake.  After half of the group left to go back to the US, the remaining 4 boarded a plane headed for the Garden of Eden, otherwise known as Botswana.  We spent 2 nights deep in the Okavango Delta followed by 1 night on the outskirts of the Delta.  Have you ever heard a lion roar in person, been charged by a hippo and an elephant in the same day, or witnessed the incredible ways of nature and how all animals, from the smallest bird to the largest elephant, communicate with one another?

In the next few weeks I will go in to detail about what I experienced and more importantly, what I recommend to anyone taking the trek to such an awe-inspiring part of the world.  Here are a few photos from my journey.  I promise there will be more to come!
